History
Dan Gilbert, Josh Luber, Greg Schwartz, Chris Kaufman, David Webber, and Mathew Piccinato formed the startup, which had its public debut in February 2016. Luber was the original creator of Campless, the website devoted to uncommon trainers that launched before StockX. In Josh Luber’s TED Talk about the shoe industry, he discussed the founding of Campless in 2012. Luber moved from Philadelphia to work as chief executive officer of Gilbert’s One Campus Martius skyscraper in Downtown Detroit after Gilbert purchased Campless from Luber. In October 2018, StockX established its first global headquarters in London. June 2019 saw the appointment of Scott Cutler as CEO.
As of August 2019, the company employed over eight hundred people. As of late 2018, StockX was one of Detroit, Michigan’s fastest-growing startups.
How StockX Works
Customers and resellers can easily use StockX’s platform. When a buyer finds a shoe model they like, they have two options: they can buy it right away at the lowest asking price listed, or they can make an offer that any reseller can accept. Following the sale, the seller mails the shoes to StockX, where they undergo authentication procedures to guarantee they are legitimate. The shoes are shipped to the purchaser upon verification.
