History
The credit union changed its charter in 1953 to include teachers in the nearby counties of Pasco, Citrus, and DeSoto. By 1960, anyone working in a school in any of the counties. Its charter covered, Charlotte, Levy, Manatee, and Sumter, may become a member. To reflect the growth of its membership, the credit union renamed itself Suncoast Schools Credit Union in 1975. In 1978, it became Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union after receiving a federal charter. The credit union changed its name to Suncoast Credit Union in December 2013 after obtaining a state franchise.
The credit union intended to complete the acquisition of Apollo Bank by May 2020, however, it started in December 2019. Nevertheless, the purchase had to be terminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Florida’s history, this would have been the credit union’s largest bank acquisition. Suncoast Credit Union became the tenth credit union in the United States to reach one million members in December 2021.

- To join, you must be a resident of a county in Florida that qualifies, have completed college in Florida, or have an immediate family member who is already a member. If you don’t fit any of these requirements, you can get in touch with Suncoast to discuss your eligibility.
- To continue as a member, a regular savings account needs to have $5 in it at all times.
- Competitive APYs are not offered by savings accounts.
