History
William Wallace Grainger established the firm in Chicago, Illinois, in 1927 as a supplier to other companies. In 1928, the business was incorporated as W. W. Grainger, Inc. In the beginning, mail order was the main source of sales, using catalogues and postcards. The MotorBook, as the catalogue was originally called, served as a basis for the present Grainger catalogue.
