History and structure of the company
PNM Phone Number: As the Albuquerque Gas and Electric Company, PNM was established in 1917. In 1949, PNM sold its gas division to Dallas’s Southern Union Gas Company. The Gas Company of New Mexico was established from these sold portions. However, PNM repurchased the Gas Company of New Mexico in 1985 following a compromise with Southern Union Gas Company over the federal antitrust lawsuit. Both the gas and electric divisions started providing PNM customer service in 1994.
In May 2003, PNM Resources’ utility subsidiary, PNM, received the Utility Leadership Award from the American Wind Energy Association in appreciation of PNM’s role in the creation of the New Mexico Wind Energy Centre. The National Wind Energy Conference in Austin, Texas, hosted the prize presentation.
PNM sold New Mexico Gas to Continental Energy in 2008. Lindsay Goldberg, a private equity firm, supported Continental Energy. A later owner was TECO Energy.[8] As soon as Emera’s acquisition of TECO Energy closes by mid-2016, it will become a branch of the Halifax, Canada-based company.

New Mexico’s Public Service Company (PNM)

More than 500,000 residential and commercial customers in Greater Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Los Lunas and Belen, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Alamogordo, Ruidoso, Silver City, Deming, Bayard, Lordsburg, and Clayton, as well as the tribal communities of the Tesuque, Cochiti, Santo Domingo, San Felipe, Santa Ana, Sandia, Isleta, and Laguna Pueblos, receive electricity from the company, which has its headquarters in Albuquerque.
Rural electric cooperatives supply the majority of the power in other places. PNM maintains 7,594 electric distribution lines, 2,282 miles (3,673 km) of electric transmission lines, and about 2,000 miles (3,200 km) of electric transmission lines. PNM owns 10% of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Facility, which is located close to Phoenix, Arizona, and a sizable portion of the San Juan generation facility, a coal-fired plant near Farmington, New Mexico. In addition, PNM owns and runs several natural gas-fired power plants across the state of New Mexico, most notably the Reeves Generating Station in Albuquerque. The main purpose of these units is to manage the highest midsummer electrical demand. PNM is one of the best employers for minorities in the US, with roughly 2,000 workers.
Texas-New Mexico Power Company
PNM Resources is the sole owner of the corporation Texas—New Mexico Power. It is a regulated electric utility located in Texas. TNP was sold in 2000 as a component of a leveraged buyout. PNM acquired Texas—-New Mexico Power in 2005, and the New Mexico assets were given to PNM in 2006. TNP’s headquarters are in Lewisville, TX.
Merger developments with Avangrid
Although New Mexico authorities first rejected the PNM Resources and Avangrid merger, things have gone well since then. Iberdrola, the parent firm of Avangrid, needs to address several legal issues. Furthermore, modifications to the public commission structure can increase the chances that the acquisition would ultimately be approved. Given the current status of the market, there is a good chance that authorities will accept the merger.
The US division of the Spanish multinational electric company Iberdrola, Avangrid, and PNM Resources agreed to an acquisition deal in October 2020. All required permits for the $8.3 billion agreement have been obtained, except the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC).
