Retirement Scheme

Employees and the Department both contribute to the excellent independent retirement plan offered by LADWP. The plan covers both permanent and temporary disability. Furthermore, although they are managed similarly, our death benefits differ from those of term life insurance. Tax-deferred payroll deductions pay for 10% of the employee’s contribution. For additional details regarding death, disability, and retirement benefits, please visit https://retirement.ladwp.com/.

Deferred Compensation

This plan is offered as a supplement to retirement benefits. Employees participating in this plan voluntarily defer a portion of their salary to help them prepare for financial independence when they retire and, at the same time, lower their income taxes. Both state and federal income taxes do not apply to deferred compensation earnings and funds until they are withdrawn, which often occurs after retirement. Contributions remain in the plan until the employee separates from City service.
