History
Following the cancellation of its operating license by the Philippine Aerial Taxi Company (PATCO), the airline was established on February 26, 1941. Back then, it was called Philippine Air Lines.
PAL, formerly among the biggest airlines in Asia, suffered greatly during the Asian financial crisis of 1997. PAL reduced the size of its fleet, terminated flights to Europe and the Middle East, essentially eliminated all domestic flights outside of those that left Manila, and laid off thousands of workers as part of one of the largest corporate collapses in Philippine history.
