Green Mountain Energy Phone Number: Sam Wyly established Green Mountain Energy in Vermont in 1997 as a spin-off of Green Mountain Power to capitalise on the deregulation of the Texas energy market. The business relocated its headquarters to Austin, Texas, in September 2000. Green Mountain was the first company in the state to provide alternative energy. When it started serving the Texas market in January 2002. Green Mountain Energy began providing service to customers in the Con Edison service area in New York City.
NRG Energy paid $350 million to acquire Green Mountain Energy in November 2010. Currently, a brand of NRG, Green Mountain Energy was formerly a stand-alone NRG firm.
The company started a “Renewable Rewards” Buy-Back programme in May 2009. This gives consumers who have renewable energy sources in their homes credit for any extra energy those sources return to the electrical grid.

Green Mountain Energy signed a two-year contract in January 2011 to supply 100% renewable energy to the Empire State Building, making it the first commercial building in New York City to do so.
