History
Ed Fenster, Nat Kreamer, and Lynn Jurich co-founded Sunrun in January 2007 to lower the initial capital outlay required of homeowners by offering them a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) or a lease. Under the PPA, homeowners pay for the electricity they use but do not physically purchase solar panels. In terms of installation, upkeep, supervision, and repairs, Sunrun is in charge.
In June 2008, the company secured $12 million in venture capital funding from a consortium of investors. Which included Foundation Capital. 2009 saw Sunrun complete a $18 million Series B investment round headed by Accel Partners and including Foundation Capital. After providing $105 million in project financing in 2008, U.S. Bancorp committed an additional $90 million in tax equity to the company in 2009. In June 2010, Sunrun and PG&E reached a $100 million agreement. The business disclosed $55 million in new funding from Sequoia Capital after the transaction. The business raised $150 million in May 2014.
