History

Breezeline began as Atlantic Broadband in 2004 when it purchased non-strategic areas from Charter Communications. Later, it expanded by acquiring assets from WOW!, G Force Cable, and MetroCast!

The announcement that Cogeco would acquire Atlantic Broadband for US$1.36 billion was made on July 18, 2012.

When Atlantic was first split off from Charter, it ranked as the 14th biggest cable group in the United States market. Abry Partners IV, L.P. and Oak Hill Capital, a Robert M. Bass-run private equity firm, owned the company.

MetroCast was purchased by Cogeco in 2018 and integrated into the Atlantic Broadband network. MetroCast networks served over 120,000 Internet, 76,000 cable, and 37,000 phone users in addition to covering roughly 236,000 homes and businesses in New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.

2020 saw the announcement of Atlantic Internet of a deal to buy Thames Valley Communications, a Southeastern Connecticut-based provider of internet services.

It will be selling the Ohio markets of Cleveland and Columbus to Atlantic Broadband for a reported $1.125 billion USD.

As of March 31, 2021, Atlantic Broadband would own and operate roughly 688,000 homes and businesses in Cleveland and Columbus, as well as about 196,000 Internet, 61,000 television, and 35,000 phone users through the WOW!
