Early life and education
Born on January 1, 2000, Isis Naija Gaston grew up in the Fordham Road neighbourhood of the Bronx, New York City. She is the eldest of her five siblings. Her father, Joseph Gaston, is African-American and was formerly an underground rapper, so she has mixed ancestry. Dominican-born Charina Almanzar is her mother. Gaston was born to Almanzar, who was 17 years old and employed at a car dealership. Gaston’s parents separated when he was two years old, having first met at a McDonald’s.
Gaston grew up primarily with his grandparents and cousins. She attended Catholic Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, where she graduated in 2018, after attending schools in the Bronx. In elementary and high school, he wrote poetry and freestyle rap. When she was a first-year high school student, she decided to go by the stage name Ice Spice.

In 2021, Ice Spice started rapping after getting to know record producer RiotUSA. In March 2021, he released his first song, “Bully Freestyle,” following the viral success of Ice Spice’s video taking the “Bully It” challenge on Twitter.
