History
AAA Texas Phone Number: On March 4, 1902, in Chicago, Illinois, the American Automobile Association was founded in reaction to the lack of motorways and roads suitable for automobiles. At that time, nine car clubs with a combined membership of 1,500 people founded the AAA. The Automobile Club of America, the Automobile Club of New Jersey, the Chicago Automobile Club, and numerous individual motor clubs were among them. Buffalo’s Automobile Club was founded in 1903. Its inaugural president was Winthrop E. Scarritt. The building of cross-country roadways was one of the initial causes that the group supported.
Present-day activities
Members belong to 42 different clubs (see the List of regional AAA clubs), and the clubs own AAA. Due to consolidation, the number of local clubs has declined over time. In the 1970s, there were numerous clubs on the membership roster, most of which serviced a single county, especially in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Members of any participating club may use member services from any other affiliate club thanks to a reciprocal service arrangement set up by the member clubs. Dues paid by members support both the club’s operations and those of the national organisation.
The Automobile Club of Southern California and Auto Club Group, are the two largest AAA clubs in terms of membership. These are the only two clubs that do not include “AAA” in their names.
Overseas associates
Several international affiliates of the AAA have reciprocal agreements. When travelling within the United States, members of affiliates often receive the same benefits as members of the AAA. When travelling within affiliate territory, members of the AAA are entitled to privileges that are comparable to those of affiliates.
Among the international affiliates are:
- The top European clubs, such as the UK’s Automobile Association, the Netherlands’ ANWB, Germany’s ADAC, Italy’s ACI, Switzerland’s TCS, Belgium’s TCB, Austria’s ÖAMTC, and Spain’s RACE, are all part of ARC Europe.
- The Canadian Automobile Association (AAA) publishes the TourBooks guides and maps of Canadian landmarks, and both the AAA and CAA organisations utilise their logos to promote their products.

Motorist Rights
Over the years, the AAA has expressed opinions on a wide range of topics affecting drivers.
Occasionally, the AAA is well-known for its prominent warnings to drivers about traffic enforcement. One such instance is when it rented a billboard to alert drivers of the speed trap town of Lawtey, Florida. Additionally, it is in favour of the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act, which was first proposed in 2001 but is still not a law.
The AAA also backed various policies that have an impact on drivers and supported taxes on vehicles to bolster infrastructure and highway upkeep.
