Subway Phone Number: In August 1965, a family friend with a Ph.D. in physics named Peter Buck partnered with 17-year-old Fred DeLuca, who needed money for college. This cooperation led to the founding of Subway. DeLuca received a $1,000 loan from Buck to start a takeaway business in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The restaurant specialised in submarine sandwiches, thus the name Pete’s Super Submarines.

Doctor’s Associates was the name of the corporation DeLuca and Buck founded in 1966. Later on, DeLuca revealed that the colleague was actually him, and the doctor was Buck. The restaurant’s name was changed to Subway two years after a second location opened in 1966. Initially, there were 16 owned-and-operated locations before the first franchised restaurants debuted in 1974. The business claimed to be the biggest “sub-chain” in the US by 1982. In Bahrain, the first shop outside of the US opened it’s doors in 1984. Worldwide, there were more than 40,000 Subway restaurants in the second decade of the twenty-first century. At that point, franchisees owned every business. After DeLuca’s death in September 2015, his sister Suzanne Greco took over day-to-day management of the business.

According to Reuters, Subway was valued at $9 billion when it was sold to Roark Capital in 2023. The company also owns Dunkin Donuts and Baskin-Robbins. The new owners intend to open 23,000 stores worldwide.
