KLM Phone Number: KLM The official flag carrier of the Netherlands is Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij N.V. It is also known as Royal Dutch Airlines. KLM’s hub is at the adjacent Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, while the airline’s headquarters are in Amstelveen. Early Year

The 1919 ELTA aviation demonstration was sponsored by inexperienced pilot Lieutenant Albert Plesman. Plesman was chosen to head a Dutch airline, and several Dutch corporate interests intended to start one after the exhibition, which attracted more than half a million attendees. When Queen Wilhelmina gave the KNLM its “Royal” predicate in September 1919, it was not yet a legal entity. On October 7, 1919, eight Dutch businessmen, including Frits Fentener van Vlissingen, founded KLM, one of the first commercial airline companies. Plesman was first named administrator and director.

On May 17, 1920, KNLM conducted its first flight. Jerry Shaw, KNLM’s first pilot, took off from London’s Croydon Airport and made it to Amsterdam. Two British journalists and a few publications were aboard the rented Aircraft Transport and Travel de Havilland DH-16, registration G-EALU, which was used for the flight. 22 tonnes of freight and 440 people were transported by KLM in 1920. Following a winter break, KLM began operating Fokker F.II and F.III aircraft and its pilots in April 1921. KLM began offering regular flights in 1921.

Meet & Seat makes it easier to connect with other travellers who share similar interests or backgrounds. KLM was the first airline to include social networking into its routine flight procedure when it introduced Meet & Seat.

  • Twitterbots: KLM has several Twitterbots that may be used to find out the status of a flight right now and to get the best KLM prices to a location on a given day or month.

KLM released “Aviation Empire,” a 3D strategy game, for the iOS and Android platforms in June 2013. Users may experience airline management through the game. From KLM’s founding to the present, players can invest in a fleet, create a network of foreign destinations, and expand airports. Through GPS check-ins, airports may be opened in the game, connecting the real and virtual worlds.

Tenerife airport disaster

The tragedy that struck Tenerife on March 27, 1977, is still the one that claimed the most number of lives in an aviation accident. It was also the most recent tragic occurrence involving a KLM aircraft. At Los Rodeos Airport on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife, a KLM Boeing 747-200B that was attempting an unapproved takeoff crashed with a Pan Am Boeing 747-100 that was taxiing, resulting in the deaths of 583 people. In contrast to the Pan Am aeroplane, which had 396 passengers and crew members, just 61 people on the KLM 747 made it out alive. The main reason was the pilot mistake on the KLM aeroplane. The KLM captain thought he was cleared to take off due to a misunderstanding.

Dense fog was another factor since the KLM flight crew didn’t notice the Pan Am plane on the runway until just before the crash. The incident left a long-lasting impact on the sector, especially on communication. To minimise the possibility of misunderstandings, controllers and pilots in air traffic control (ATC) communication have placed more emphasis on the use of standardised phraseology. As part of these changes, ATC stopped using the word “takeoff” in everyday speech and now only uses it to approve an aircraft’s takeoff.
