History
OCCU Phone Number: When it was first founded in 1956, a group of state government officials “pooled their money together in a shoe box.” With 28 counties served, it is currently the third biggest credit union in Oregon out of 84.
When deposits at Oregon State College Federal Credit Union topped $1 million by 1960. Mr. Coyle was appointed as the organization’s first paid manager. The first off-campus branch opened at 1605 N.W. Monroe in Corvallis the following year.
The largest credit union in the state is Portland Teachers Credit Union (now OnPoint Community Credit Union). It was a potential merger partner for the credit union in 2003. The two did not ultimately combine.
Since then, the credit union has renamed itself as Our Community Credit Union (OCCU) to more accurately represent the diverse and expanding membership. All citizens of the state of Washington are now eligible to join OCCU as of 2010.
Members of OSU Federal decided in 2014 to convert the credit union from a federal charter to one issued by the state of Oregon. We renamed ourselves Oregon State Credit Union from OSU Federal Credit Union on January 1st, 2015. This allowed us to provide membership to anyone residing in or employed in any of the 24 counties located in western and central Oregon.
